Taking Time to Process

Most people describe me as a quick thinker. I am. It helped me obtain great grades in school, but it has also gotten me in trouble. I love guessing games. Since I'm a quick thinker AND I love guessing games, sometimes I jump into conversations before the person speaking can blurt out what he/she will say. My most memorable of these experiences was when I was in Turkey and a police officer was attempting to tell us something. He spoke no English. None. He was using body movement to tell us something. I was guessing... out loud. When he touched his hair, I blurted, "You wash your hair of us!" When he pointed at something, I blurted out an entire fictional story of how we were supposed to go to a certain location and find a certain man and fill out paperwork before we realized he was pointing at a chair in which to sit. I am more "filtered" now, but I still get excited about guessing games.

And my son? Not a "quick thinker". Well, I don't know if he'd be described that, but he cannot quickly process things, due to his APD. Thank God I'm married to a man who also lets things sink in before he speaks. I am, however, trying my best to be patient and not "guess" what my son is telling me before he says it.

I came across a Facebook page today. It's called "Madison Ray for Auditory Processing Disorder Awareness". It's a cute little girl's journey with the disability, so go check it out.

Also, please watch this video. This explains -- SO WELL -- how Jared processes things. I want to make sure his teacher sees this too.
Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good! His faithful love endures forever. Psalm 118:1 (NLT)

  1. How wonderful it is that there are teachers out there who "get it".
