Be My "VELANTINA"?

Today Jared completed his Valentine cards for his classmates. It definitely took some time. I was proud at how well he now writes his name (and the other kids' names). No backward E's! That was something we had struggled with. Every once in a while, he decides to write other letters backwards, however. And the order? Well, sometimes he doesn't seem to get that words have an order. We're working on that.

I still can't quite comprehend how he used to know all alphabet sounds and then he lost all of it and had to re-learn. I'm still hoping for answers to that odd occurance. He knows them now, but still has some off days. Today's issue was A's and E's. He has one of both in his name and he spells his name correctly. However, he sometimes says "J E R A D", even though he's writing "J A R E D". I have learned that this is common with APD kids. Your mouth looks similar when you say A and E. He also has had difficulty with D and G. The mouth does the same thing. When he was re-learning his alphabet a couple months ago, he would often say A B C G E F D. I couldn't understand why he was doing that until we saw the APD specialist. Ray then started using a mirror to show him where his lips, teeth and tongue go for each letter. Thank God for all these tips to help him!

Happy Valentine's Day!

Dear children, let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth. 1 John 3:18 (NIV)
