When I found out that dyslexia isn’t just about words, but
about directions, objects, etc. it changed my entire perspective. The majority
of folks, however, still think of it as just swapping letters around. So, when
my son was playing with his new rocket Christmas present the other day and
wanted all of us to watch as it catapulted up to the sky, I wasn’t shocked at
the words that he said. The rest of the extended family, however, had eyes
filled with bewilderment.
“Watch! It’s going to hell!” (he yelled as he stomped on
the contraption that launched it into the sky)
When he was asked what he said, he replied (still yelling) “Go
to Hell!” as he stomped on it again.
Very calmly I told him, “I think you mean heaven”. Of course
he did, and without skipping a beat, he yelled, “It’s going to heaven!”
When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is mankind that you are mindful of them, human beings that you care for them? Psalm 8:3-4 (NIV)
